MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID (MHFA)

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an 8-hour training course facilitated by certified Spring River Mental Health and Wellness, Inc. staff. The course is designed to provide individuals with the skills they need to help someone who may be experiencing a mental health crisis or developing a mental health problem.

Participants learn the facts and warning signs of mental illness and substance use disorders. Trainees are taught how to apply the 5-step strategy in a variety of situations, such as helping someone through a panic attack, engaging with someone who may be suicidal, or assisting an individual who has overdosed. An important component of the MHFA training is the opportunity to practice the intervention strategy. This simple experience can make it easier to actually apply the knowledge in a real-life situation.

This course may be eligible for continuing education credits for many different professions, such as nurses, educators, human resource professionals, etc. Participants should let the instructor know they would like CEUS.
